We met up with indie rock stalwarts The Walkmen at a friend’s studio in a converted barn (chickens and all) in Philadelphia to talk about cassettes, mixtapes and music. Citing influences like The Rolling Stones, The Specials, The Sex Pistols and The Pogues, it’s no wonder that The Walkmen stand out for the uniqueness of their sound and innovative approach to atmosphere and instrumentation. The Walkmen – Hamilton Leithauser, Paul Maroon, Walter Martin, Peter Bauer, and Matt Barrick – grew up in and around the Washington, DC area, attended the same high school, and have played in many of the same bands from early in their careers. In September 2010 The Walkmen released their sixth studio album, Lisbon, to critical acclaim (include iTunes link) and are currently on tour.
